A Polk County jury has found Theresa Irizarry, 43, guilty of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. On the evening of December 13th, 2019, Irizarry was traveling in the area of New Tampa Highway and Lee Ave. in Lakeland when she struck a bicyclist. The victim later died from his injuries. Instead of stopping, Irizarry fled the scene and traveled several miles before calling law enforcement. Evidence presented at trial showed the victim’s bicycle seat was lodged in the front grille of Irizarry’s vehicle. Irizarry is scheduled to be sentenced on June 22nd. State Attorney Brian Haas thanks Assistant State Attorneys Samuel Bryant and Steve Alamia, as well as the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, for their work on this case. https://www.sao10.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Theresa-Irizarry-1.jpg 600 480 Jamie Owens https://www.sao10.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Office-of-the-State-Attorney-10th-Judicial-Circuit-Logo.png Jamie Owens2026-04-24 14:47:522026-04-24 15:16:47Woman Convicted of Leaving the Scene of Crash Involving Death
