MVA Students Earn Recognition at NHSMUN Apr 28 2026 Montverde Academy students and EagleMUN members Islay Smith and Camelia Berrada recently attended the National High School Model United Nations conference in New York City, where they represented the Kingdom of Morocco in the High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence. “Surrounded by large delegations, we initially felt intimidated as one of the only schools represented by just two students,” they shared. “After listening to former Vice President Kamala Harris speak about perseverance and hope during the opening ceremony, we felt inspired to rise to the challenge.” Once in committee, Islay and Camelia quickly found their footing. “In committee, we quickly began building alliances and making our voices heard,” they explained. Speaking in front of nearly 70 delegates, they confidently presented Morocco’s stance on artificial intelligence in education, using “creative hooks and strategic collaboration to stand out.” Through hours of intense debate and negotiation, they worked alongside peers to form blocs and contribute to meaningful resolutions. Their efforts did not go unnoticed. “Our hard work paid off when Morocco received a Merit Award,” they shared. In addition, both delegates were selected as preliminary speakers, earning the opportunity to present on a larger stage in front of multiple committees. To conclude the experience, the students had the honor of meeting the United Nations Ambassador for Morocco, where they discussed their work and research. “Representing our school on an international stage, earning recognition, and engaging in global dialogue made this an unforgettable and rewarding experience,” they said.
