Published: July 2025 Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority Fire Department Upgrades to Advanced Life Support (ALS) for Enhanced Emergency Medical Care The Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority Fire Department (SMAAFD) is proud to announce its transition from Basic Life Support (BLS) to Advanced Life Support (ALS) services at Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ). This significant upgrade will enhance emergency medical care for travelers, employees, and visitors, ensuring faster, more effective medical treatment in critical situations. “We are committed to providing the highest level of emergency medical care at SRQ,” said Jason Hackley, Fire Chief of the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority Fire Department. “The transition to ALS empowers our highly trained paramedics to deliver advanced interventions, such as cardiac monitoring, IV medication administration, and airway management, thereby giving patients the best chance for a positive outcome.” The ALS service launched on July 16th, 2025, equipping SMAAFD personnel with state-of-the-art medical technology to address a broader spectrum of medical emergencies. This enhancement aligns with SRQ’s ongoing efforts to improve passenger safety and provide top-tier services to the traveling public. In addition to providing advanced care at the airport, the SMAAFD working in close coordination with mutual aid partners will ensure the best possible care and timely transport of patients to the nearest healthcare facilities for further treatment. This collaboration guarantees continuous and comprehensive medical support both on and off airport grounds. SMAAFD’s transition to ALS demonstrates its commitment to excellence in emergency services and passenger safety.
