Suspect accused of spitting on officers during custody Cranford, NJ — A late-night investigation into a stolen vehicle escalated into a violent confrontation, leaving an officer injured and a suspect facing multiple charges. The incident unfolded around 11:55 p.m. April 29 in the 200 block of South Avenue East, where officers located a stolen 2013 Nissan Rogue parked at a business. Police said the vehicle was occupied when officers approached, leading to the arrest of 24-year-old Woodberlens Jules of Newark. During the arrest, authorities said Jules engaged in a physical struggle with officers and continued to act combatively while in custody. Police reported that he spit on several officers and later assaulted another officer during transport to a hospital, causing injury. Jules was charged with receiving stolen property, aggravated assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest, hindering apprehension, and refusal to submit fingerprints.
