MVA Math Teams Take First and Second in Nail-Biting Finish at 39th Annual Mathlympics Apr 21 2026 By Ms. Candace Dietrich On Friday, April 17, Dr. Anne Browdy and Ms. Candace Dietrich accompanied eight Math Club students to compete in Lake-Sumter State College’s 39th Annual Mathlympics in Leesburg. The math department at LSSC consistently does an excellent job of creating a fun yet competitive environment where students can display their mathematical talents. Montverde Academy’s Team B, consisting of Dylan Bova, Rimon Du, Mateus Silva, and Xinning (Ningning) Wang, earned 250 points to claim first place. Team A, which included Ne (Annie) An, Siqi (Stephen) Chen, Yan Zhong, and Ronghang (Hannah) Zhu, followed closely with 245 points, securing second place. This marks the closest finish in MVA history between the two teams. LSSC rules state that a school may receive only one award, so only Team B was officially recognized. As always, all participants did an outstanding job representing their school, themselves, and their families. It is always a challenge to select just eight students to represent the school in this contest each year, and this year was no exception given the remarkable talent we have seen. It has been a true pleasure working with such bright, dedicated young people throughout the year, and we appreciate everyone’s participation in the math club. Congratulations to both teams!
